They had 2 children, Marie gave birth to two girls (Irene in 1897 and Eve in 1904). When Irene got old enough Marie let Irene around high levels of x-rays which made them really sick. While the two girls where little Pierre's father took care of them. Marie was supposed to have another child but didn't make it probably due to high levels of radiation in her lab.
On one rainy afternoon Marie was home when pierre went for a walk. Pierre was said to have a problem with his legs and as he was crossing the road he fell and a horse-drawn wagon ran over him and he died instantly. Marie was devistated and asked conpanioship from one of Pierre's closest friends, Paul Langevin. The news papers had exposed the love affair between them and Curie's reputation and creer were nearly destroyed. Then the Swedish Nobel committee announced she had won the Nobel prize for chemistry. In 1934 Marie's bold adventure into the atomic universe came to the end. She died in Paris of leukemia, a cancer of the blood.
